Exclusive: Peter Fury wanted Tyson title reprieve with spring return possible, talks reality TV rumours

With a trio of championships to lose due to a recent cancellation of his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko and an admission of drug taking, the immediate future in looking uncertain for Fury.

Peter is bracing himself for Tyson to be stripped of the WBA, WBO and IBO belts in his possession but says the 28 year-old may have returned to action quicker had the organisations not been so hasty.

“I think he should have been given the chance to keep hold of the belts until he’s in a good place but it’s not my decision I’m afraid,” Fury exclusively told World Boxing News.

“If it was up to me, obviously I’d say he should have kept them because he’d have probably been back in the ring by March or April next year.”

On whether losing the belts could have an adverse effect on Fury’s mental problems, Peter added: “I don’t think the titles are going to make so much difference as he’s a big name in boxing.

“When he gets his required treatment and he comes back, he’ll just step back into big fights – I assume.”

Finally, asked his thoughts on a UK tabloid report of an offer to appear on popular ITV reality TV show ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ when it returns later this month and a subsequent post of the story by Tyson himself on social media account, Peter was unsure what to make of it.

“It’s a load of crap as far as I’m concerned but I’ve no idea,” he said. “I don’t think so, but I’ve not engaged in it so I don’t know the answer.”

The latest regarding Fury’s championships is the WBO have released an official document outlining their intentions to relieve their outspoken belt holder soon, with the WBA and IBO tipped to follow suit in the near future.
