Andrew Selby faces Hermogenes Castillo on Josh Taylor v Dave Ryan bill

Tickets for this night of championship boxing on October 21 at the Meadowbank Arena in Edinburgh are on sale now from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and are priced £40, £60 and £100 VIP.

Barry, Wales native Selby, 5-0, faces off against the undefeated Castillo, 11-0, in a tantalising clash of unbeaten prospects on October 21. Selby, the British flyweight champion, will be looking to build on his impressive British title winning display against Louis Norman in May with another resounding victory against a live opponent.

“Winning the British title in my first year as a pro was a great start,” said Selby. “Now with the other British fighters like Butcher, Edwards and Satchell all pulling out to box me I want to push towards European and World Titles. That starts on October 21 in Edinburgh and I can’t wait to perform in front of the passionate Scottish fans.”

His opponent, the undefeated Hermogenes Castillo, 21, heads to Scotland as an underdog but is ranked highly in his home country of Nicaragua and is very confident that he can cause a big shock on October 21.

“I am travelling to Scotland to cause a big upset, I will knockout Selby on October 21 and it will be beautiful,” said Castillo. “He (Selby) is highly regarded in the UK but the standard at our weight is poor in Europe and I will show him what it feels like to fight a real flyweight.”

The Selby vs Castillo bout will be shown on Channel 5 on October 21 as the chief support bout to Josh Taylor’s vacant Commonwealth super lightweight title fight against former champion Dave Ryan.

Cyclone Promotions founder Barry McGuigan is delighted that such a competitive bout has been added to the stacked Edinburgh card on October 21. “Andrew Selby vs Hermogenes Castillo is a real live fight between two unbeaten prospects,” said McGuigan.

“Credit must go to Andrew for taking such a competitive fight against a dangerous Central American, when no one else in Britain wanted to face him,” added McGuigan. “If Andrew can beat Castillo in style, then we will look to move him closer to a World title shot with another competitive title bout on November 18 at the SSE Arena, Wembley on the undercard of Groves vs Gutknecht.”

Selby’s experienced manager Chris Sanigar is enthused with his charge’s progress. “It’s exciting times for Andrew, I believe he’s one of the most exciting talents in World boxing,” said Sanigar. “Showcasing his skills to a large UK terrestrial audience on Channel 5 is great exposure. Hermogenes Castillo is a southpaw ranked above Andrew and unbeaten in 11 fights, he should prove to be another strong test so early in Andrew’s pro career.”

More undercard announcements for Taylor vs Ryan will follow in the coming days.
