Felix Sturm drops WBA title due to injury, plans 2017 Sarajevo return

Sturm, 37, had been under investigation by drug testers over a failed test, of which the ‘B sample’ was due to be opened on October 12.

The Bosnian-born former title holder, whose real name is Adnan Catic, is now planning a return to the place of his birth once he launches a comeback next year.

World Boxing Association officials are yet to comment on the full circumstances regarding Sturm, and whether he would have faced being stripped or banned anyway, although there’s a championship up for grabs at 168 pounds whatever happens.

Fedor Chudinov, who firstly defeated Sturm before losing the rematch, is mandated as one of the contenders, whilst Stanislav Kashtanov is ranked number two, with Briton George Groves holding onto third spot.

At this point in time, Groves would appear to be the favourite to battle Chudinov for the newly-vacated belt, with more to be revealed soon on the fate of the black and gold strap.
