Fury, 27, pulled out of his scheduled mandatory fight with Wladimir Klitschko for the second time in three months last Friday and could be stripped of all three of his title belts unless he can provide the information needed to the WBO, WBA and IBO.
The World Boxing Association have already confirmed to WBN that they are awaiting a medical report from Team Fury before assessing what course of action to take, whilst the WBO and the International Boxing Organisation have now followed suit.
“It is my understanding that per Rule 19 of the WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests, Luis Batista-Salas, on behalf of the WBO Championship Committee, has (Monday) requested a medical evaluation asking Tyson Fury to specifically clarify the nature and extent of his condition and a prognosis for return to training and to competition,” WBO General Secretary Jose Izquierdo II exclusively told World Boxing News.
“This information is necessary for the Committee to evaluate his circumstances appropriately within the division and to consider his status as WBO World Champion.”
Asked how long Fury has to provide this information on Monday evening, Izquierdo answered, “Ten calendar days,” which gives promoter Mick Hennessy just nine days from today to make sure the champion keeps that portion of his titles.
The IBO have seemingly taken a leaner stance and just want Fury to keep them in the loop once the information goes out to all parties involved.
“We’re a long way away from making that decision,” IBO President Ed Levine exclusively told World Boxing News.
“At this point, we are requesting documentation from Tyson Fury at which time the IBO Championships Committee will make a decision,” he said.
On Klitschko’s side, the 40 year-old will certainly be hoping to fight for all three belts in his next outing but has also been linked to possibly challenging Anthony Joshua for the IBF version.
Facing Joshua on November 26 may be the ideal situation for Klitschko moving forward and could buy Fury a bit more time, provided his records are handed into the WBO before the end of next week.
