BoxNation’s Webster returns home following battle for life in Rio

Webster, 33, has been suffering from a rare form of Malaria since taking in the opening ceremony of the Games and was brought out of an induced five-day coma earlier this month.

The former Sky Sports News reader had cycled to the Brazil capital for charity – covering 90 miles per day, although dehydration from the feat was cited as a possible contributing factor to Webster’s plight.

Following almost a month of care at Copa D’Or Hospital, Webster has finally been allowed to continue her recovery at home.

Commenting on the news, Webster gave the following message via dictaphone: ‘I’m so grateful to the staff in Rio for the care I’ve received, they saved my life,” said the boxing anchor.

“The last few weeks have been hell. I’m just so grateful to be here. I have the most wonderful family and friends supporting me and the well-wishes from the public have been incredible.

“I’m happy to be home to continue my recovery in the UK,” she added.

Many of the boxing fraternity have pulled together for Webster and WBN would like to add our thoughts to Charlie in the hope that she makes a complete recovery.
