Angulo: The dog was asleep for a couple of years, now he’s woken up!

The 34 year-old is one of the hard luck stories of the 154 championships having gained interim status in 2009 but come up against the likes of Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez when on the verge of a full title chance.

Angulo certainly has everything in his locker to become a world ruler and believes the desire is stronger than ever to shake off his tag of nearly-man and better one of the current belt holders over the next twelve months.

“I have the same hunger and passion that I had in the beginning of my career. ‘The Dog’ was asleep for a couple of years but he’s woken up now,” said Angulo.

“Right now the only goal is to win this Saturday. I’m hoping that next year I can contend and fight for a world title. I have always fought the toughest fighters and I’ve never been afraid of a challenge.

“It’s very important for me to fight for the fans. This is a huge fight for my career. I want to live up to what the fans expect from me,” he added.

‘El Perro’ went through a tough time between 2013 and 2014 when losing a trio of fights on the bounce, although has the chance to make it three wins in a row with victory over Hernandez this weekend.

Opponent Hernandez, 37, has himself scored a hat-trick of triumphs recently following an abysmal run of six straight defeats, also losing out to Cuban slickster Lara along the way.
