Roy Jones Jr. fights on, returns to action August 13 in Pensacola

McGee Wright, Jones’ long time manager said “He wants to end his career in Pensacola at some point, I’m not saying this is his last fight but he started here and he wants to end it here.”

Get your tickets early, you don’t want to miss out on what promises to be a great night of boxing and MMA. Square Ring Promotions and Island Fights have put together their biggest fight card to date that features some of the best talent from across the nation.

Square Ring Promotions has promoted a number of professional boxing and MMA events across the U.S. and was the first promoter to promote a nationally televised pay per view hybrid boxing and MMA event.

Island Fights has become one of the fastest growing MMA franchises in the southeast and continues to gain momentum with each event. In 2015 Island Fights was named the Florida MMA Promoter of the Year.

The co-main event of the evening will feature a lightweight championship bout between current Island Fights Champion Elvin Leon Brito taking on World Series of Fighting veteran Keon Caldwell. Brito has a lot on the line, not only making his first title defense but with a win over Caldwell could come a UFC contract.

Also featured on the card will be a heavyweight battle between Dakota Merritt and Frank Tate. Dakota Merritt is 6’7” and a former Mississippi State football player. Frank Tate has been making waves on the heavyweight scene and is currently undefeated with three first round knockouts.

The card will also showcase the professional boxing debut of Devin Cushing the most decorated amateur to come out of Pensacola, Florida since Roy Jones, Jr. Island Fights CEO Dean Toole said “Cushing is the future of boxing. He has everything it takes to be a world champion and I believe he will be a world champion for a very long time.”

Toole promises an entertaining night of fights that will feature eleven bouts on the card with five of them being heavyweight bouts. This will be an action packed night of excitement and you don’t want to miss it!”
