DiBella: Courts will decide Wilder v Povetkin matter

Wilder, 30, had planned to follow through with his mandatory duties to the WBC against Povetkin in May, travelling to Russia in preparation only for the contest to be called off with just nine days remaining.

Povetkin was found to have traces of meldonium in his system, five months after the substance was added to the banned list, and his promoter Andriy Ryabinskiy is currently in the process of arguing the Russian’s case that WADA allow the drug’s presence in tests until October.

Ongoing developments have followed and lawsuits are already in process, whilst DiBella says everything will be sorted out in due course and Wilder is not affected.

“We have lawyers obviously as do Povetkin’s people. We’re having conversations right now with the WBC about an opportunity literally to be able to do the same thing Povetkin’s people did,” said DiBella.

“But that’s not for Deontay to be worried about right now. The rest of that stuff is going to take care of itself.

“Frankly, the WBC, we respect their process and we want to get our points across. But this is ultimately going to be decided in the U.S. courts in the southern district of New York where there are lawsuits pending.

“So this is a legal matter,” he added.
