Eubank Jr misses out as Golovkin faces Brook in London

‘The Special One’ was not in contention to be in the opposite corner to Golovkin at the O2 Arena earlier this week as Eddie Hearn attempted to complete a deal for Eubank to face the middleweight king.

By Wednesday though, it became clear that something was wrong as both Golovkin and Eubank questioned the other sides desire to make the fight, whilst secretly Brook was waiting for his moment to make his presence felt.

The 30 year-old from Sheffield has now finalized a massive contest opposite one of the world’s best punchers and completely stolen rival Amir Khan’s thunder into the bargain. Khan shocked all when putting pen to paper to fight then WBC 160 pound champion Canelo Alvarez in May, but was knocked out badly in the mid-rounds and sent packing back to the 147 pound limit.

Brook is set to retain his status as a title holder in the welterweight division meaning the unbeaten Yorkshireman will only lose his ‘0’ should Golovkin have his wicked way as expected on September 10.

‘GGG’ will be a massive favourite to defeat Brook, whilst rival Eubank Jr and his father will be forced to look on from afar and think what might have been unless they can arrange an undercard slot with Hearn.
