David Haye exposes Arnold Gjergjaj’s padded record in two

The 35 year-old put ‘The Cobra’ down in the first round with an early shot through the guard and from that point on the last place Gjergjaj wanted to be was sharing a ring with the ‘Hayemaker’.

Gjergjaj touched down in the last second of the opening session, which wasn’t counted as a knockdown, but the writing was on the wall for the Switzerland-based Montenegrin in the second round.

What looked to be a light tap with the jab sent Gjergjaj diving to the canvas to boos from the crowd and for a second it looked as though the previously unbeaten heavyweight (29-0) was looking for a way out.

Sensing the end, Haye stepped up his onslaught and put Gjergjaj out of his misery to record the 28th victory of his career and set up a September clash with former WBO ruler Shannon Briggs at the same venue.

After the bout, Haye stated that he intended to chase a challenge against IBF title holder Anthony Joshua once he gets Briggs out of the way this autumn.

Briggs had earlier taken care of Emilio Zarate in just one round.
