Errol Spence Jr: New PPV star in the making ready for coronation

Spence did what Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan had both failed to do in stopping the tough Algieri on Saturday night, but it was the manner of the victory that made everyone stand up and take notice.

The win has catapulted Spence to stardom at 147 pounds and potentially above the likes of welterweight champions Brook and Thurman in the public perception despite not yet holding a world title belt.

Brook was one of the two names called out by Spence in the aftermath of his crushing fifth round triumph at Barclays Center, although the 26 year-old has everyone with a reputation in his sights as the looks to gain control of the division.

With Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather now out of the picture and retired, Spence has all the ingredients to take over their mantle and become the next pay-per-view star to lead the sport into the next era.

Speed, power and a likeable persona to boot, Spence has all the ingredients to shine brightly for years to come, and with his fanbase steadily building, interest in the Texan is set to skyrocket over the next twelve months.

Predictions that Spence would beat Pacquiao if they fought this year and promoters fighting off talk of their man being defeated by the new kid on the block are already doing the rounds, whilst the boxer himself can just sit back, relax and await his next move.

A world title shot is unlikely to be in the immediate future for Spence, although another gatekeeper fight against the likes of Lamont Peterson, Robert Guerrero or Devon Alexander would set him up nicely for a possible crack at Jessie Vargas or Danny Garcia in late 2016.

Talk of a fight with IBF belt holder Brook seems far away from becoming a reality as ‘The Special One’ seems intent on fighting at home in Sheffield since dethroning Shawn Porter on US soil in 2014.

Fighting Spence in the summer would be the perfect opportunity for Brook to silence those doubters who are questioning his opponents, including UK rival Amir Khan, although the reality is the Briton may well begin as underdog if he accepted a fight with the division’s new star across the Atlantic.
