Promoter Tommy Dove discusses heavyweights Ian Lewison and Dominic Akinlade

Lewison, 34, is undefeated in his last four, whilst 35 year-old Akinlade is yet to taste defeat in six bouts and victory for the pair at the end of the month will keep them firmly in the UK top division mix.

“If Ian Lewison applies himself who knows what he could potentially achieve,” Dove told World Boxing News.

“I think he and everyone else is fed up saying he could do this and could be that. End of the day, I’d like to promote him over the next few years and have possibly six to eight fights in that time and see where we go.

“He’s with Don Charles who’s track record with London heavyweights speaks for itself and It’s down to Ian ‘Lay ‘em out’ Lewison to show everyone what he’s about on April 30.

“When it comes to Dominic, he’s one of the nicest guys I know in boxing and he’s the Southern Area heavyweight champ,” Dove continued.

“He’s got all the tools to check in to that top ten and make a mark in the division. The only thing I think he’s not utilising is that real killer instinct.

“In his fight against Ali Adams, he had him in the first two rounds, but take nothing away from Ali as he did well to go the distance. In heavyweight boxing, you can’t afford to let a man off the hook who is carrying 17 stone plus. That’s a dangerous game!

“If he finds that little five percent extra nastiness we could see some real progress from the Top Gun,” he added.

Lewison and Akinlade feature on the same bill as Chris Eubank’s estranged son Nathanael ‘Banks’ Wilson who fights for the second time at super lightweight following a successful debut last month.
