Saunders: Chuck me in against GGG, let’s see what I’m made of!

The WBO champion and WBC belt holder Canelo Alvarez are the only men left holding a title belts as ‘GGG’ continues to clean up the division and Saunders says he’ll be ready for the tough Kazakh after his April 30 defence against Max Bursak.

“I want Gennady Golokvin. I want to see what I’m made of. Let’s face it, Golovkin is the best out there so let’s chuck me in there,” Saunders told Paul Dempsey on Saturday night.

On Canelo continually fighting below the full 160 pound limit, Saunders added: “I’m not a catchweight fighter. I don’t believe in catchweights. If you fight at 154, 155 then you’re a light-middleweight. If you win the title at 160 pounds then you can call yourself the middleweight champion.”

Canelo is not playing ball when it comes to a scheduled mandatory clash with Golovkin this summer as the Mexican is refusing to bulk up for a unification. The WBC have already stated that Canelo is well within his rights to request a lower weight, although something will have to give if both sides cannot agree within two months.

The WBC have given Canelo until May 22 to agree a defence against Golovkin and the only reprieve for Alvarez could be the intervention of Saunders in setting up a fight to further put the breaks of their mandatory obligation.
