Lucas Browne’s promoter Ricky Hatton has released a statement of intent to clear his fighter’s name in the wake of allegations of doping.

The tough Aussie failed a drugs test one day after his WBA heavyweight championship triumph over Ruslan Chagaev in Grozny this month.

That’s according to information released by the testing body VADA on Monday.

Hatton has stated in no uncertain terms that he sees Browne as an honest and drug-free boxer. The UK legend hopunderstandtom of why his sample was flagged shortly.

A statement received by WBN on Tuesday read as follows:

Ricky Hatton on Lucas Browne

“Ricky Hatton and Hatton Promotions were made aware late last night that Lucas Browne delivered a positive A sample drug test following his world title wins over Ruslan Chagaev.

“We believe strongly that boxing should be free of performance enhancing drugs. However, we believe Lucas Browne to be a clean athlete who arrived in Chechnya, a clean athlete.

“We are therefore conducting our investigations. We cannot comment further at this time.”

Browne, 36, is now sure to ask for his B sample to be tested. In the meantime, he faces losing his status with the WBA.

Not to mention being branded a cheat should the second results conclude the same as the first.

Hatton didn’t travel with Browne to Chechnya when ‘Big Daddy’ knocked Chagaev out in the ten round of an entertaining battle on March 5.
