The 24 year-old was due to lock horns with one of the most avoided fighters in the world in Rigondeaux until the Cuban amateur superstar flew back to Miami citing visa issues as the reason for his no-show.
Dickens wanted to plough on with his appearance this Saturday night at the Echo Arena in his hometown of Liverpool in order to stay sharp ahead of a vacant European title bout scheduled for the same venue on June 4.
“Thanks for all support. Things happen for a reason and Reynaldo Cajina is my next latest opponent,” revealed Dickens.
“I hope it’s a good night for all involved. I’m looking forward to a great night of boxing in front of best people in the world,” he added.
Cajina, 33, was no match for Dickens when they met over four rounds in 2013 and has lost 30 of 49 contests, plus his last two in a row.
Following a semi-promising start to his career, ‘Flaco’ has won just eight fights in the same number of years, although does hold a victory and a draw against Dickens’ summer opponent Abigail Medina – to his credit.
Ryan’s Walsh and Burnett, Gamal Yafai and Martin J. Ward are fellow-British fighters who also hold victories over Cajina.
