Huck scores third Afolabi triumph; Santa Cruz, Ruiz win

The 31 year-old sparked fears his career may be on the slide when being stopped on his US debut against the rugged Pole in New Jersey, but put himself back in the shop window with a 39th victory.

Huck picked up the IBO cruiserweight title into the bargain as Afolabi was unable to continue after ten rounds of yet another bruising battle between the two at the Gerry Weber Stadium.

Over in California, Leo Santa Cruz retained his WBA featherweight title with a convincing win over Spaniard Kiko Martinez.

The slick two-weight world champion had Martinez tasting canvas in the opening session and piled on the pressure to eventually force referee Raul Caiz Sr to step in midway through the fifth.

In the co-feature, Hugo Ruiz immediately avenged his stoppage loss to Julio Ceja by halting his compatriot in the very first round at the Honda Center and regain the WBC super bantamweight belt.

Ruiz, 29, was stopped in five rounds by Ceja last August, but this time took just 51 seconds to score a 32nd early finish due to an ankle injury suffered by the champion.

Ceja was stretchered out of the Anaheim venue amidst fears of a fracture – which should mean the 23 year-old is handed a third contest with Ruiz once fully fit.
