Ruiz, 29, was stopped in five rounds by Ceja last August, but this time took just 51 seconds to score a 32nd early finish due to an ankle injury suffered by the champion.
Ceja was stretchered out of the Anaheim venue amidst fears of a fracture – which should mean the 23 year-old is handed a third contest with Ruiz once fully fit.
