Look: Amir Khan begins bulking up for Canelo Alvarez clash

The 29 year-old will battle the formidable Mexican Canelo Alvarez, who currently holds the WBC middleweight title, at a catchweight of 155 pounds in Las Vegas.

Khan has been building strength and working on his core fitness with the help of Keiser machines in the hope to build himself up sufficiently to take Canelo’s belt.

On the night, the Bolton man is expected to be at a disadvantage of a full stone in weight, at the very least, and is a big underdog to add another world title to his haul.

Canelo, 25, has lost just once if his career against pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013, but has since won four fights on the spin, including an impressive triumph over Miguel Cotto last time out.

The winner is then stipulated to face Gennady Golokvin in late summer, a fighter widely regarded as the best middleweight on the planet. ‘GGG’ has been WBC number one contender for a full year since victory over Martin Murray in Monte Carlo and has assurances from President Mauricio Sulaiman that he will fight for their coveted title belt in 2016.

Should Khan be able to come through Canelo in the spring, it’s highly debatable the ex-Olympic silver medallist would keep the championship and take on Golovkin as a catchweight agreement would no longer be on the table.
