Canelo, 25, will face Khan on May 7 in Las Vegas following a shock announcement by Golden Boy Promotions last Tuesday, with only the venue, said to be the new Las Vegas Arena, left to be confirmed.
Sulaiaman has also given his blessing to the 155 pound catchweight agreed between the Mexican superstar and 2004 Olympic silver medallist and says any limit below 160 pounds comes within the WBC regulations.
“Canelo versus khan is a sensational fight. Amir Khan has tremendous ability, speed, ring generalship and vast experience in major fights, whilst Canelo is coming from his biggest fight in defeating Cotto las November,” Sulaiman told World Boxing News.
“The fight is for the WBC middleweight championship and if there is any weight agreement, such is a private contract between the fighters. The division limit is 160, so any weight lower than that is considered as official and within the rules,” he added.
Khan goes into the clash as a huge underdog to prevail in what would be a shocking turn of events for the talented Briton. The 29 year-old is jumping a full eight pounds against a big super welterweight and will be allowing the current title holder to come in three pounds heavier than when Canelo faced pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.
There is also no rehydration clause to speak of and both fighters are expected to enter the ring at around 160 and 175 pounds respectively on fight night.
