Freshmart defends interim WBA title, decisions Buitrago in rematch

The 25 year-old, who edged out Buitrago in a closely-fought contest in October 2014, repeated the feat in more convincing circumstances to win Hekkie Budler’s old title on home soil at the City Hall Ground in Chonburi.

Freshmart improved his unblemished record to 12-0 in what was his sixth career fight to hear the final bell and carried on his impressive record of fighting for some sort of championship in every single one of his pro fights so far.

For Buitrago, the loss means Freshmart remains the only man to defeat him. Buitrago, 24, had previously battled to a stalemate with Merlito Sabilo for the WBO 105 pound version in November 2013, but will now doubt be in contention again in the near future.

Also on the bill in Thailand, home favourite and former WBC champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai recorded a 59th career triumph with a six round points win over journeyman Boido Simanjuntak.

Sithsamerchai, 30, has suffered just one loss and one draw in his 61 professional outings and is now plying his trade at the bantamweight limit in search of another world title chance.
