The World Boxing Association had sent out an S.O.S to Ustinov on Tuesday in a bid to figure out his next move after naming the 39 year-old as part of an eight-strong tournament to crown a sole top division king.

“The World Boxing Association (WBA) released earlier this year a resolution which ordered a series of matches to debug the heavyweight division and thus have a single champion. One of the confrontations agreed was between the Cuban Luis Ortiz (24-0, 21ko) (interim champion) and Russian Alexander Ustinov (33-1, 24KO). However, the European puncher has not been located so far, “ read the WBA statement.

Warren has since responded to an enquiry from World Boxing News to inform of his acceptance on behalf of Ustinov who looks set to face the winner of Ortiz versus Alexander Dimitrenko scheduled for March 5 in Washington.

Ustinov earned his place alongside the likes of Tyson Fury, Wladimir Klitschko and Ruslan Chagaev in the WBA competition by recording six straight victories since suffering a solitary career loss to Kubrat Pulev in 2012.
