The 38 year-old was ringside in Los Angeles on Saturday night to take in the fight between Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero for his old WBC welterweight belt and seemed relaxed with his decision to hang up the gloves four months ago.
“As of right now, I don’t have the urge to fight,” Mayweather told Brian Kenny.
“I’m just spending time with my children. They’re happy to be at the fights with me.”
‘Money’ last fought when out-pointing Andre Berto in a routine victory on September 12, 2015 and has been adamant that his record of 49-0 will not be improved upon in the future.
There are many sceptics though, including me, that believe Mayweather will certainly be back in action by the end of the year as 2016 represents the 20-year anniversary of the American’s professional debut. That took place in October 1996 at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas and Floyd setting up a massive 50th fight to break Rocky Marciano’s record in September this year would be the perfect way to mark two decades in the sport.
It remains to be seen whether Mayweather can keep those itches at bay full-time as the five-weight world champion is still on top as his game, even if approaching the big 4-0. Meanwhile, arch-rival Manny Pacquiao has already stated that he would return for a second fight with Floyd even after his own scheduled curtain call in April.
The pair fought out the most lucrative bout of all time last May and would have ample time to organise a rematch once Pacquiao’s third and final clash with Timothy Bradley is out of the way, provided the Filipino comes through unscathed.
