Garcia-Guerrero / Charlo-Jackson for Mayweather’s old WBC belts

Despite initially ordering a tournament to crown a winner in the 147 and 154 divisions, the WBC have now decided to crown immediate champions.

In a statement released this week, the WBC outlined which four fighters will be put forward for both belts.

“Floyd Mayweather received the highest honor ever presented to a boxer with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the WBC Annual Convention in Kunming, China,” said the official release.

“Mayweather, the WBC Emeritus Champion, retired from boxing as reigning WBC welterweight and super welterweight champion and will always be regarded as one of the greatest champions in WBC history.

“The WBC wishes the best of luck to all the participants who are seeking to reach the glory of conquering the WBC green belt.”

The WBC has ordered the following contests for the welterweight and super welterweight divisions:

WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION

Danny Garcia vs. Robert Guerrero will fight for the WBC welterweight championship.

Fight takes place on January 23 in Los Angeles, California

SUPER WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION

Jermell Charlo vs. John Jackson will fight for the WBC super welterweight championship.

Fight date yet to be determined
