Haye last fought in July 2012 when knocking out Dereck Chisora in five rounds before pulling out of two fights with Tyson Fury due to injury. ‘The Hayemaker’ has consistently promised a comeback over the last eighteen months, although his fans are still waiting for news as the clock ticks on the Londoner’s career.
Having suffered only one defeat to Wladimir Klitschko in the top division, the two-weight world title holder has much still to give the sport, but without a promoter or trainer seem no nearer to confirming a return to action.
Fights with UK rivals Anthony Joshua and Fury himself could still be on the cards for Haye if he finally puts everything in place for another run at a recognized belt, although the more time that ticks by, the less likely a second shot at the big time will come.
The 200lb plus ranks are not as wide open as they once were, and with Klitschko constantly making mandatory challenges due to his mass of championships, Haye’s only route would be against ex-sparring partner Deontay Wilder.
Wilder holds the WBC title, which sees Joshua as the next in line once the American faces Alexander Povetkin in the coming months, meaning Haye would have to beat the most promising heavyweight in the world in his twilight years to earn a coveted shot at the green belt.
