Exclusive: Eddie Hearn outlines Chris Eubank Jr title situation

The latest high-profile addition to the Matchroom ranks, Eubank opposes Jeter on the Kell Brook v Diego Chaves undercard on October 24 before moving on to a higher-profile contest, potentially against Gary O’Sullivan in December.

Ahead of the proposed clash with O’Sullivan, Hearn has negotiated with the WBA for Eubank to keep his title for the next couple of weeks, provided that the Briton then drops the championship in the aftermath of the Sheffield bout.

“I spoke with Gilberto Mendoza late last night (Friday) and agreed a fantastic resolution for Chris Eubank Jnr,” Hearn exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Following his defence of his WBA Interim title against Tony Jeter we will be vacating the title due to a further opportunity that has presented itself for our December 12 bout.

“We will release further news in due course.”

WBN understands that a WBA final eliminator could be on the cards for Eubank and O’Sullivan on the Anthony Joshua v Dillian Whyte undercard, with the winner then meeting the victor of champion Danny Jacobs Brooklyn clash with Peter Quillin.

Jacobs v Quillin takes place just one week prior to the possible Eubank v O’Sullivan – England versus Ireland battle in London and could conceivably be seen a semi-final tournament between the top-class foursome.
