Talented super featherweight prospect Christian Gonzalez is back in action this week as the Mexican-American prepares to fight professionally for the eleventh time in his career.

The 19 year-old, who has won all ten of his previous contests, takes on Erick Orozco over six rounds on Golden Boy’s latest edition of LA Fight Club and is looking forward to returning to the Belasco Theater.

‘La Chimpa’ has fought his last two bouts at the venue since switching from his Mexican base in 2014 and Gonzalez is eyeing another impressive performance to add to his already standout 10-0, 9 KO record.

Christian Gonzalez talks to World Boxing News

“I am very happy with how things have been going,” Gonzalez told World Boxing News.

“I have seen a lot of progress and I am more relaxed. My timing is also a lot better and I feel stronger.

“I am only 19 and I still need more experience, but I feel good about the way things have been progressing.”

Asked about facing Orozco and potentially keeping up his 90% knockout ratio, Gonzalez added: “It would be great absolutely. But if the knockout doesn’t come we are prepared to go the distance.

“I love fighting in LA. It’s awesome and the atmosphere at LA FIGHT CLUB is amazing. The fans go crazy and overall it’s a great experience.”

With a fearsome reputation as a big-puncher at 130lbs already, Gonzalez was typically humble when quizzed about his potential competitors and immediate future as the fighter just wants to take every contest as it comes – beginning with this Thursday night.

“I think that there is great talent in my division and there are some tough competitors. As time goes by, we will one day be at the same ranked level as they are,” said Gonzalez.

“I would just like to get a few more fights in this year after my next fight and close of the year off right,” he added.
