DeGale hits the big league, on course for Groves rematch

The win puts the 29 year-old in line for fights against the biggest names in the division, although a chance to avenge his solitary loss to UK rival George Groves can become a reality should ‘The Saint’ overcome Badou Jack in his own US assignment.

Groves has the opportunity to win the coveted WBC championship against the Swede in the coming months, and with both camps work on a date and venue stateside, the Londoner will know his fate in the imminent future.

DeGale should then have time to fit in a homecoming bout in October to celebrate his win, before promoter Eddie Hearn builds up another huge Wembley showdown featuring Groves at the back end of the spring or early summer of 2016.

Their first meeting in May 2011 at the O2 Arena was an epic tussle that saw DeGale just edged out via a wafer-thin majority decision, and five years on the compatriots could do it again, but this time with two world title belts on the line.
