David Haye held by Dubai police over bounced cheque property payment

Authorities in the Londoner’s adopted holiday home held the semi-retired fighter after a final payment for a property he built in the country bounced – a criminal offence in Dubai.

Haye, 34, recently announced that he is to make a comeback to boxing after a two years out of the sport, although it is hard to image the boxer having financial troubles after earning a whopping paycheck in the millions for his 2013 victory over Dereck Chisora.

A fight towards the end of 2015 as been touted by Haye as part of a plan to be challenging for a world title by 2017 after a serious shoulder injury threatened to derail the ex-WBA top division title holder’s career prior to a scheduled bout with Tyson Fury.

Whilst Fury is on the verge of a world title challenge against ex-Haye foe Wladimir Klitschko, the ‘Hayemaker’ himself faces an uphill task to reach his former heights on the back of such a long spell out of action.

The one-time cruiserweight king was due to be part of a TV show for British MMA at the weekend, but was forced to apologise for his no show as Haye was stuck in Dubai until his documentation is returned to him – which could take weeks.
