Katsidis backs Campbell over Coyle, is open to future clash

Katsidis, who is back in action on March 20 following his shock stoppage defeat to Coyle last year, is in no doubt that Olympic champion Campbell has way too much in his locker for Coyle and would also be willing to sign on for a future meeting with the unbeaten fighter.

“Down the track a fight with Luke Campbell would be good, but not just yet,” Katsidis exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I have no problem fighting Luke Campbell and I think he will make pretty good work of Tommy Coyle. I mean I don’t want to bring Tommy Coyle down, and maybe one may suggest Coyle is too mature for Luke Campbell, but I don’t believe that’s the case.

“I don’t know about punching power, but I have seen enough to know that Luke Campbell could beat Tommy Coyle.

“Without rubbishing Tommy Coyle, I do think that Campbell is the better fighter of the two,” he added.

Campbell made a dramatic u-turn last week after initially deciding not to box on March 7 as Coyle tops the bill in the Ice Arena against ex-British title holder Martin Gethin. The 27 year-old has been constantly by his ill father’s bedside during what is a difficult time for his family, although Campbell was persuaded to fight on the card after all.

If both Campbell and Coyle come through their respective bouts this weekend, an outdoor encounter is in the pipeline as previously outlined by promoter Eddie Hearn. The Matchroom boss has had plans to pit the two Hull natives together for some time.
