Saturday round-up: Sturm-Stieglitz stalemate; Adamek loses again; Montiel

Fighting at a catchweight just above 166lbs, the two former world champions fought out an exciting contest through twelve rounds. In the end, the judges failed to find a winner and carded 115-113 to either boxer – with the third seeing it 114-114.

Also on the bill, women’s WBA flyweight champion Susi Kenitkian successfully defended her title on points against Noako Fujioka, whilst Konni Konrad and Maurice Weber both went the distance in victories against Olegs Fedotovs and Gary Abajyan respectively.

In Poland, Tomasz Adamek lost for the fourth time in his career and second in a row as Artur Szpilka edged the ex-world title holder over ten rounds, whilst Grzegorz Proksa was knocked out in seven rounds by undefeated Maciej Sulecki.

Elsewhere in Mexico, Fernando Montiel continued his resurgence by recording a seventh straight win and 53rd in total when out-pointing Sergio Puente to inflict the super-featherweight’s first career loss in 16 contests.

Another world title shot could be just around the corner for ‘Cochulito’ following the ten-round victory as the three ringside judges came back with scores of 98-91 and 96-93 twice in favour of the former bantamweight king.
