Opponent named for 7ft Taishan, plans revealed for Top 20 status next year

Taishan, 26, dominated Alex Rozman on his debut back in July, using his formidable jab to down and stop the American in two rounds and now moves on to 0-3 Lane as revealed by manager George Gallegos this weekend.

“I believe Taishan will be fighting 6ft 4ins Michael Lane from Arkansas,” Gallegos told World Boxing News, before explaining his plans for Taishan in the coming year.

“I would like Taishan to fight as much as possible for him to get experience and continue to improve. He is intent on reaching his goal of becoming the first Chinese heavyweight champion of the world.

“In 12 months, I am sure Taishan will be in the world’s top 20 continuing towards his goal of being up with the best.”

The fighter himself has adjusted well to life in the United States since making the move to pursue his boxing dream and Taishan is delighted with the reception he has received from the public and media alike.

“It is great. I am very grateful for the publicity I have received so far,” said Taishan. “It is also surprising, but has been a motivation for me to continue to show my skills and to be the best I can be.

“To fight in California again will be good for me as the fans are amazing and it is the State I first came to from China. Now it is my home so I am happy to be fighting in my new home state.”

Asked what he gained from his punishing win against Rozman over the summer, Taishan added: “I think the experience I received from my first fight was the most important thing I gained.

“Fighting on national television before a large crowd in a foreign country was an experience in itself and something I had to get used to even before a big heavyweight is trying to punch me.

“I also learned how important the jab is in boxing and I know that a hard left jab for me is a key to success.”

Joseph Diaz Jr v Roberto Castaneda tops the bill a week on Thursday, with Julian Ramirez and Diego De La Hoya both set to feature on another addition of the Golden Boy Live! series broadcast on Fox.
