Huck on Klitschko v Pulev: Sometimes all it takes is one shot

The 29 year-old needs just one more defence of his title to overhaul ex-belt holder Johnny Nelson, but would jump at the opportunity to face the formidable Ukrainian and fully believes that he is capable of pulling off the victory.

“It’s simple. I already have something to show for myself as I have defended my world championship 13 times. Therefore, I believe I can rightfully say that I could beat Wladimir Klitschko,” Huck told World Boxing News.

“Most of Klitschko’s past opponents were handpicked and had nothing to show for themselves except of a big mouth. How many of them were able to call themselves champion I just don’t know. And the ones who once upon a time actually did hold a title were already in the latter stages of their career.”

Klitschko, 38, defends his WBO, IBO, IBF and WBA crowns against Kubrat Pulev on November 15 in Hamburg, Germany as ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ heads into the eleventh year of his impressive undefeated streak.

Whether Pulev can actually be the one to end that run Huck is unsure, but the long-reigning 200lb ruler was quick to point out that there have been shock victories in the past and an upset is only ever a punch away.

“Of course Pulev has a chance to win, but the end of the day just like in every sport, probably even more so in boxing, one single moment can make or break you. Especially in the heavier divisions as you just have to look at the first Lennox Lewis vs. Hasim Rahman fight. No one gave Raham a real chance but he got Lewis with that one shot and it was all over. Sometimes that is all it takes,” stated Huck.

The German has recently spent time in Las Vegas where he was honored by the WBO for his achievements in the ring, whilst Huck is looking to return to action in the near future in his bid to break Nelson’s feat.
