Sykes v Walsh for vacant Lonsdale belt in February, plus more British title news

Smith handed the coveted title back to the BBBofC after being suspended for attempting to negate on a deal to defend it on December 7 against Skyes, leaving the Yorkshire awaiting a new foe.

Stewards at the British Boxing Board of Control have reacted now positively to a request by promoter Frank Warren to pit Cromer’s Walsh against Sykes for the Lonsdale Belt on February 22nd at York Hall.

As previously announced, Warren also won the purse bid to stage the upcoming heavyweight title bout between champion David Price and current European king Dereck Chisora.

Securing the bid doesn’t necessarily mean that the fight will go ahead as Price could easily vacate if the Liverpudlian decides to go in a different direction, although the prospect is an exciting one for the future.

Another mouth-watering clash sees lightweight title holder Martin Gethin and Anthony Crolla duke it out on the undercard of Froch v Groves on November 23, whilst flyweight Kevin Satchell battles Nathan Reeve on December 7.
