Peter Fury: Hughie taking time out, back in action on Haye v Fury

The 19 year-old suffered a cut in his previous contest in defeating David Gegeshidze, and after contemplating just a month’s rest, father and trainer Peter has decided to delay Hughie’s return until the massive February 8 clash between cousin Tyson and David Haye.

“Hughie’s cut means he can take the opportunity to get a few things done during his time away,” Peter told World Boxing News.

“He has got some dentistry work and taking his driving test that he has put off to concentrate on his career, so this is the time to do it.

“Hughie could fight on the December 14th, but he might as well get his private life in order before he comes back. He’s also helping Tyson full time in camp training for David Haye so he will be busy.”

Asked whether the time off would affect Hughie’s chances of reaching his aim of breaking Mike Tyson’s youngest world title winning record, Peter was dismissive and believes his son is still on track to achieve his goals.

“After his short break, Hughie will be back fighting once or twice per month and he is also stepping up his opponent level in 2014.

“It won’t to anything to our plans, only the amount of fights this year. Hughie will be twelve months as a pro come 28th March and he will still be around 15 fights in that first year,” he added.
