Hyde on Rigo rematch: Donaire will walk himself into another beating!

‘Rigo’ carded a unanimous points win over Donaire in their April meeting of this year, with the scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 114-113 not accurately reflecting the wide margin between the two fighter’s on the night.

On the back of his ninth round stoppage of Darchinyan in Corpus Christi, the revitalised Donaire made a point of calling on the Cuban to hand him a return in 2014.

A confident Hyde was receptive to the idea of pitting his fighter against the former pound for pound number two again once Rigondeaux sees off Joseph Agbeko on December 7 in Atlantic City.

“It has only taken Donaire seven months to say he wants a rematch with Rigo,” Hyde told World Boxing News.

“Rigo relishes the thought of another fight with Donaire and has told me that he will knock Donaire out if they do fight again.

“Donaire has been fighting great fighters who’s best days are well behind them and the first hungry fighter he faced, in Rigo, exposed him greatly.

“The way his is talking, Donaire better be careful or he will walk himself into another beating.”

Rigondeaux, 33, puts the WBO belt he ripped from Donaire, along with his WBA version, on the line against Agbeko at the Boardwalk Hall next month and aims to extend his perfect 12-fight record on the night.

A second bout between the talented pair does make the most sense in the current climate, with a unification involving WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz maybe a close second for either Rigondeaux or Donaire.

Doniare picking up another world title and then signing on for what would be a three-belt title match-up could possibly make the rematch even more lucrative, although nothing be set in stone until after Santa Cruz and Rigondeaux complete their December obligations.
