Golovkin promoter and trainer weigh-in on Murray clash

Over the weekend a story came to light that confirmed Golovkin v Murray for Monte Carlo next year, which was immediately dispelled by Rodney Berman and manager Oleg Hermann over the weekend.

Promoter Tom Loeffler and trainer Abel Sanchez have now both followed suit, with the mandatory clash seemingly far from finalised as the British newspaper article had suggested.

“I can say that article is not true,” said Loeffler. “I am not sure where they got the information from, but it is not accurate.”

Sanchez added: “It’s not true. Murray has been offered the fight before and turned us down.”

So far, Murray’s promoter Ricky Hatton hasn’t released anything official, but it is thought that the world title fight is a possibility for 2014 as the fighter’s do want it. Both sides must first thrash out a deal that suits all involved.

The pair have long been linked to a high-profile bout on either side of the Atlantic and with a neutral venue like the one in the principality, the fight seems to have more chance of happening than not.

Murray has recently been handed a spot on the huge pay-per-view clash between Carl Froch and George Groves and things may become clearer once the two-time world title challenger comes through that outing unscathed.
