Olympic champion Usyk scores debut KO, Uzelkov stops Codrington

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist put the southpaw on the floor in the third, before ending the fight in the fifth, in what was an impressive debut for the 26 year-old from Simferopol, Ukraine.

6ft 3ins Usyk is tipped to be fast-tracked to the top of the 200lb rankings in similar ilk to London team-mate Vasyl Lomachenko at featherweight, and both fighters have had no trouble adapting to the paid early on.

In the main event, Vyacheslav Uzelkov looked lethargic in beating American Jaidon Codrington in six rounds to move his record to 30-3 with his 19 stoppage.

Codrington, who lost for the fourth time in his career, had his moments in the fight – although was on the wrong end of a debatable refereeing decision after getting to his feet from a knockdown seemingly fine to continue.

There possibly could have been a language barrier between Codrington and Yuri Koptsev as the official deemed ‘The Don’ unfit to carry on and Uzelkov was declared the victor.
