David Haye drops out of WBC Rankings

The recently-turned 33 year-old, who is due to fight number seven-ranked Tyson Fury on February 8 in Manchester, has been out of the ring since his destructive win over Dereck Chisora in the summer of 2012 and the WBC have now acted to drop the ‘Hayemaker’ this month.

“WBC rules state that a fighter with twelve months of inactivity must come out of the ratings and this applies to David Haye,” Mauricio Sulaiman clarified to World Boxing News today.

Londoner Haye had been as high as five in recent rankings sheets, which had rumours of a possible WBC title challenge against Vitali Klitschko doing the rounds, although the two-weight world title holder is now seemingly out of the running to face the Ukrainian until he gets back in the ring.

Having been forced to postpone his last two scheduled bouts against Manuel Charr and Fury due to injury, WBA number one contender Haye will need to put on a good showing to regain his position ready for a possible swansong fight for Vitali before he turns his attention to becoming President.

Fury, 25, who also fell down the rankings on the back of the Haye reshuffle, will obviously hope to cement his own chances of facing the elder Klitschko in the latter part of 2014 as Deontay Wilder, Bryant Jennings and Mike Perez overtake him in the pecking order.
