Chris Van Heerden makes Gary Hyde debut on December 14 in Barcelona

The 26 year-old southpaw has been patiently awaiting news of his debut under Guillermo Rigondeaux handler Hyde, with a big fight in the United States on the horizon for Van Heerden next year.

“I’m excited to be getting back in the ring in December,” Van Heerden told World Boxing News.

“It’s been a few months since I fought Matthew Hatton, but I am hungry and will be ready for whoever takes the fight. I am maturing into a better fighter and I am confident I will only get better under Gary Hyde.

“This fight is a warm up to get me ready for a big title defense in early 2014 in the US and I want to give the Spanish fans a heated night on the 14th.

“The welterweight division is hot right now and I want to give the fans something to talk about. It is my 22nd fight and its time I fought outside my own country,”

Manager Hyde added: “I am pleased to have organised a fight for Chris on the 14th of December, which boxing fans in Barcelona can enjoy.

“It’s a keep busy fight which will see Chris through until he fights in the US in February and I am looking forward to seeing him back in action.

“Mark Heffron and Iain Weaver, who are both unbeaten, will also fight on the show – which should be a great night,” he added.

Van Heerden has been linked with a host of fighter’s in the past few months, including Kell Brook and Paul McCloskey, although looks set for a lower-key affair as ‘The Heat’ nears his dream American bow in the near future.
