‘Money’ offered ‘Pacman’ flat fee

Five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather’s offer to Manny Pacquiao to fight on May 5^th in Las Vegas has been revealed by the Filipino in a recent interview with Nick Giongo of Tempo.

Pacquiao, 33, has disclosed details of the offer, which was made when the American made a personal call to the WBO welterweight title holder last week and still hopes to re-open negotiations with the WBC champion.

“He said he will guarantee me $40 million but I won’t have any share on the pay-per-view and other sources of revenue,” said Pacquiao.

“How can he leave me out of the pay-per-view when I generate more than him in pay-per-view sales? I am still praying that Mayweather gets enlightened because I believe that I am not being unreasonable.”

As Pacquiao contemplates other options for a June 9^th date, Miguel Cotto seems to be out of the running to oppose the Congressman in the summer as he is unwilling to drop below 152lbs, which was his fighting weight on the scales for his victory over Antonio Margarito.

The Puerto Rican was thought to be ahead of Timothy Bradley as the favourite to sign on for Pacquiao but Pacquiao’s offer was to fight at 147lbs, which ‘Junito’ turned down as it would be too much for him to shift the weight.

Cotto could now step in a face Floyd Mayweather on May 5^th at 150lbs and is expected to make an announcement next week. With Mayweather v Pacquiao seemingly off the table, Timothy Bradley now heads the four-man shortlist to face the ‘Pacman’ on June 9^th in Las Vegas.
