Mayweather earns $25 million for Ortiz bout

Floyd Mayweather’s fight purses have been released online after The Boxing Truth.com’s John Chavez requested the figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commissions’ Keith Kizer.

The figures show that the 34 year-old WBC champion dwarfs Pacquiao’s recent fees as the Filipino’s records quickly appeared on Floyd Mayweather’s official website yesterday in an apparent retaliation to the release of his numbers.

Mayweather eaned $25 million for his last fight with Victor Ortiz and $22.5 million for his victory over Shane Mosley whilst Pacquiao earned just $7.4 million at his highest against Hatton and Cotto and $6 million against Mosley last May.

There now will be extended understanding into why the American is refusing to give the WBO belt holder a requested 50-50 split of the purse. Mayweather has offered what now looks a generous $40 million dollar career-high purse to the eight-time champion which has been turned down by the 'Pacman' and his promoter Bob Arum.

WBC light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez and WBA 154lb title holder Miguel Cotto are now in the frame to face Mayweather and Timothy Bradley seems favourite to oppose Pacquiao, with the respective bouts to take place in May and June.
