Haye: Wladimir v Mormeck paints a bleak picture for heavyweight boxing

Retired champion says no excitement now he is gone

Boxer-turned-Actor David ‘Hayemaker’ Haye believes that heavyweight boxing has now become a duller place since he stepped away from the sport last week and slates the latest world title bout between Wladimir Klitschko and Jean’Marc Mormeck as a prime example.

The 31 year-old, who hopes to break into action films in the near future, recently kept his promise of retiring from boxing on his birthday and now says the Klitschko brothers will find it hard to arrange meaningful fights.

"Wladimir is now challenging Jean-Marc Mormeck - a guy who I knocked out at cruiserweight,” stated Haye.

It will be one of the most unappealing heavyweight contests for many years. It paints a really bleak picture for the future of the division.

"In the division, you are not going to be getting any more exciting nights now, unfortunately.

"I can't think why a person who has as many titles as Wladimir is challenging someone who has done nothing. It makes me think the division is back to what it was before I got here - it's a shame but that's the way it goes."

Wladimir’s older brother Vitali, 40, who holds the WBC title, is still harbouring hopes of enticing the Briton back to the ring although the longer Haye is away, the less likely he is to return.
