‘A-force’ eyeing British title shot

Former European heavyweight champion Audley Harrison has admitted that he has been part of some bad nights in boxing over his career but believes that he deserves another chance to prove himself before he steps away from boxing.

The 40 year-old, who is currently appearing on the BBC’s Saturday night show Strictly Come Dancing, has been out of the ring since a humiliating loss to the now-retired former world champion David Haye and told Sky Sports’ Ringside show that he will return to boxing once his stint on the show is over.

"Even though I'm hitting 40 and I've got I've got injuries, I still want to go back to boxing and give it one more shot - and I think I deserve that,” said Harrison.

“I've had some shockers, but I've also had some highs.

"The dearth at the top level is so bad and the Klitschkos are so desperately looking for challengers. If I fought Tyson Fury for the British and Commonwealth, that one victory potentially could get me back to a world title shot.

"That's how open it is. It's one fight. I want the biggest risk for the biggest reward and I think I deserve that.

"I've had a lot of good nights and I've had some bad nights, but I really don't want that David Haye fight to be my lasting legacy."

‘A-Force’ captured the Olympic gold medal in 2000 at super-heavyweight before turning professional and claiming the Prizefighter title in 2009 as well as the EBU belt in 2010.

The Londoner will now hope to fulfil his initial dream of being British champion before attempting to topple one of the formidable Klitschko brothers in 2012 and erase the memory of last November’s shot-shy performance against the ‘Hayemaker.’
