Fight triangle emerges from WBC decision

After the World Boxing Council’s decision to keep Bernard Hopkins as their light-heavyweight champion, the rematch question will surely be the next to be asked and it looks as though Chad Dawson is ready to set the wheels in motion.

The 29 year-old, who regained the WBC title for all of five days, is now set to pursue his claim for an immediate rematch with ‘The Executioner’ and if he does take his objection to the WBC, it is highy likely that they will accept his request and the two fighters will meet again, probably in early 2012.

Another fighter that has seen the situation as an opportunity is current IBO cruiserweight champion Antonio Tarver, who has continually dogged Hopkins since losing to him in 2006 and has now waded in at ‘B-hop’ on social site Twitter after hearing of the WBC’s reversal.

“Champions lose but never does a champion quit,” argued Tarver.

“I never have, and you know what else I never did B-Hop? QUIT!!!

“No matter what, they would rather get KO'd. Death before dishonour!

“They don't mak'em like they use to.”

Hopkins, 46, now remains the oldest world champion of all time until a final ruling is made public in December and will begin his six to eight week therapy for the injury suffered in the bout with Dawson immediately.

The Philadelphian has told Dawson that he is ready for any potential rematch with him although both fighters will have to wait until the final decision before they can begin negotiations.

Tarver is still seeking out an opponent for his first defence of the IBO belt he took when he destroyed Danny Green last summer and may have to keep busy in order to be ready for a future bout with Hopkins.
