Bury fighter takes the Lonsdale Belt in Bolton

Undefeated Scott Quigg is the new British super-bantamweight champion after a dominant performance over former world title challenger Jason Booth at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

The 23 year-old took a round to warm-up against the wiley champion before hitting cruise control in the second and from then on, there seemed to be no doubt about the outcome.

Booth, 33, looked out of his depth as the younger challenger swarmed all over him as he tried, in vain to keep the taller fighter off him as he unleashed some devilish body shots and combinations.

The questions started to be asked about pulling Booth out from the fifth round and after seven rounds, Frank Maloney and the corner spoke to the British champion and all involved decided to hand the title to Quigg.

The Bury fighter now improves to 23-0 with his 16th stoppage and will be looking for bigger fights in 2012, with Commonwealth champion Carl Frampton ringside to witness his triumph.
