Scot wants super-featherweight repeat

Former British featherweight champion Paul Appleby is hoping to entice Liam Walsh into a second helping of the pair’s BoxNation battle last month after the South Queensferry man was stopped in the tenth round of their first meeting.

The 24 year-old had Commonwealth super-featherweight belt holder Walsh, 25, in trouble in the seventh and their looked to be only one winner at that point of the fight, only for the Cromer fighter to stage a remarkable comeback in what has been billed as one of the Domestic fights of the year so far.

Appleby (17-3, 11 KO’s) is now eyeing a rematch with Walsh after admitting that he strayed from his original Plan A in their York Hall bout and believes the out-of-season heatwave at the venue was also a major factor.

"I'll stop him next time,” Appleby stated to The Scottish Sun.

“I was annoyed with myself at the time, but after watching reruns I realise I've improved so much since I beat John Simpson three years ago to become British champ.

"My biggest problem when I fought Walsh was that I didn't stick rigidly to the game plan.

"I still can't believe Walsh managed to get up from the seventh round knockdown when I dropped him with a left hook. It was sweltering at York Hall and I think that had an effect on me, but I still managed to make a big impression on Frank Warren."

Champion Walsh may now want to move on to bigger things after the ten-round battle with Appleby, although fans demand may out-weigh his wishes and a rematch could be on the cards in 2012.
