World champion opens his doors for amateurs

Former Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan has invited the members of the United States and Pakistani Olympic Boxing Teams to use the facilities at his Bolton gym before the 2012 Olympics take place in London.

The 24 year-old, who takes on Lamont Peterson on December 10th in defence of his unified light-welterweight titles, has already offered his gym services to trainer Joe Gallagher after he left his Denton gym and has made a similar gesture to the amateur boxers.

Khan’s younger brother Haroon hopes to be part of the Pakistani Olympic squad after representing them at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 but has so far been blocked from competing at the Olympics by the boxing committee (AIBA) after boxing for England at youth level in 2009.

Haroon, 20, is set to appeal the decision but decided not to take part in the World Amateur Championships which are currently reaching their climax in Baku whilst the appeal is processed.

Four-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach, who currently trains Khan, is also helping out the US squad and is expected to accompany them in their UK trip.
