Washington D.C hosts unified 140lb title bout

IBF number one light-welterweight Lamont Peterson has home advantage for his world title challenge against WBA and IBF belt holder Amir Khan tonight at the Washington D.C Convention Center.

The 27 year-old was originally due to meet Khan in April this year but failed to agree terms on a bout at the MEN Arena in the UK and will now box in his home state in his second world title challenge.

Khan, who just turned 25, is making what could be his final bout at 140lbs before he moves up to the lucrative welterweight division where Floyd Mayweather and gym-mate Manny Pacquiao currently hold world belts.

On the undercard, heavyweight Seth Mitchell takes on Timur Ibragimov in his toughest test to date and will step up in class even further next year if successful against the 6ft 3ins Uzbeki.

Mitchell, 29, is undefeated in 24 fights with 17 knockouts and is touted as America’s next big hope to dethrone the Klitschko brothers after years of dominating the division in the 80’s and 90’s.

Also on the bill is Peterson's brother Anthony, who attempts to bounce back from his only defeat in 31 bouts to Brandon Rios against Daniel Attah and has been out of the ring all of fifteen months.

Khan v Peterson is live on HBO from 9.45pm ET 6.45pm PT and from 11pm on Sky Sports in the UK
