‘The Real Deal’ to get Russian challenge

Four-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield is in line to challenge new WBA ‘regular’ champion Alexander Povetkin in his first world title defence after the Russian claimed the title formerly held by David Haye in August.

Holyfield, who turns 49 later this month, has vowed to continue fighting until he unifies the heavyweight division once again and could become the oldest boxing world champion of all time if victorious, eclipsing Bernard Hopkins’ recent feat at 46.

The former undisputed cruiserweight champion has not held a recognised world belt in eleven years, failing on four separate occasions to re-claim a version of the title and is fast running out of time to reach what seems to be an unreachable goal for the Georgian.

Povetkin, 31, improved his record to 22-0 when picking up the title and is set to put it on the line against the American legend. The bout is expected to be confirmed for December 17th at the Hallenstadion in Switzerland soon.
