Olympian to step up in class against “Big Bad John”

Undefeated heavyweight prospect David Price will move a step closer to his dream of a British title shot when he takes on former English champion John McDermott tonight, with the winner to get a shot at Tyson Fury's Lonsdale belt.

Price, 27, has a perfect eleen-fight record, with nine knockouts since turning pro in 2009 on the back of his bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic games and whilst McDermott has more experience, he has been stopped three times in his seven losses.

The Basildon-born 31 year-old has always come up short at British title level, losing to Matt Skelton, and Danny Williams twice, but does pack a punch as Larry Olubamiwo found out in McDermott’s last bout and the Scouser will have to be weary as the Essex-man does have 17 KO’s in his 26 victories.

On the undercard at the Olympia in Liverpool, former British flyweight champion Paul Edwards returns for a six-rounder against Martin Power after losing his title to namesake Chris at the same venue last June and Joe Ainscough also makes a comeback following his Prizefighter semi-final loss to Rocky Fielding for a four-rounder with Carl Dilks.

David Price v John McDermott is live on Sky Sports 1 from 8pm tonight
