Saturday Night Round-up

Still Champion: Huck
Huck defends title, Adamek beats Grant and Ali wins again

Marco Huck defended his WBO Cruiserweight Title with a 5th round TKO victory against American challenger Matt Godfrey in Thuringen, Germany.

Huck now (30-1-0) looked in control from the first round against an out of shape looking Matt Godfrey and took out the challenger in a punishing fifth round.

The champion dropped “Too Smooth” Matt Godfrey with a slamming right hand in the first minute of round 5 and the end looked inevatible from that point on as Huck produced a barrage of punches to knocked the American down twice more before the referee Genaro Rodriguez had seen enough and waved it off.

It was WBO champ Huck’s fourth defence in a busy nine month period and keeps him in line for a possible unification fight with the Polish WBC champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in Germany early next year.

On the same bill Finland’s Robert Helenius defeated France’s Gregory Tony to claim the vacant European Heavyweight Title with a 6th round TKO victory.

Adamek: Points Win
Also in Heavyweight action last night was Poland’s Tomasz Adamek, who now resides in New Jersey and was fighting on home territory against one time World Heavyweight Title challenger Michael Grant.

Adamek was much smaller in height and weight than his opponent and in a close fight, should have just outscored the much bigger Grant but with Adamek being the home fighter, the home judges somehow scored the contest 117-111, 118-110 and 118-111.

Adamek (42-1-0) was rocked in the 12th by a huge right hand but held on to claim the decision and move a step closer to a world title challenge.

Ali: 9-0
Also, on the undercard "World kid" Sadam Ali kept up his impressive unbeaten record to move to 9-0 with five knockouts by defeating Costa Rica’s Lenin Arroyo with a punishing fifth round KO.
